Van Gogh and Four Eyes

Celebrate Van Gogh's birthday with I Have Four Eyes, written by Roberta C. Stone and illustrated by award-winning artist Lauren Zurcher (pictured above at the The Museum of Modern Art in New York City). The book features his iconic painting The Starry Night.

Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential artists in history. In I Have Four Eyes, a little girl who dislikes wearing glasses asks, "Why must I have four eyes when most of us have two?" Her mom then tells her stories about Impressionist painters, like Van Gogh, who created beautiful artwork due to their unique view of the world.

"For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream... Everywhere we look, complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes." --Vincent Van Gogh

Having two different ways of seeing is not a detriment, it is a gift. I Have Four Eyes encourages everyone to love what they are and embrace what they have, just like Van Gogh.
