The Long Road Home, written by Rebecca Cooperman-Glucksman and illustrated by Amy Glatiotis, receives the Readers' Favorite 5-Star Award.
Readers' Favorite is one of the largest book review and award contest sites. Reviewer Anne-Marie Reynolds writes:
"The Long Road Home by Rebecca Cooperman-Glucksman tells an important story for all kids. Bailey and Buddy are two happy little dogs. They have a wonderful home filled with love and happiness and lots of bones to chew on, but one day, Buddy asks Bailey if he thinks all dogs are as lucky as they are. They decide to set off on a journey to find all the unhappy dogs and bring them home. They cross fields and forests, rivers and deserts, and they find beagles and pit bulls, German shepherds and shih tzus, and they gather them all up and bring them back to their warm home. Will all these dogs be welcome? Will they finally have a warm home to call their own?
I loved The Long Road Home by Rebecca Cooperman-Glucksman because it tells a story that’s close to my own heart. All my dogs were rescues, and this book is a great way to teach kids that not every dog is lucky enough to have a warm, loving home and that they should always help when they can. The illustrations by Amy Glatiotis bring the story to life, and the way it is written, with a certain amount of alliteration, makes it a fun, easy read for kids to follow and understand. It’s also a good introduction to lots of different breeds of dogs, and opens up conversations about dog rescue rather than buying from a breeder. With more books like this for children, we can only hope that, in the future, there are fewer dogs needing homes and more in safe, warm places. Highly recommended reading for kids and adults."
