Team 7-Eleven Returns

Team Uno-X Mobility rebrands as Team 7-Eleven at Liège–Bastogne–Liège, paying tribute to the iconic cycling team founded in 1981.

Do you know the story behind this historic jersey?

When team founder Jim Ochowicz and author Geoff Drake wrote the “Team 7-Eleven” book, they included an account of the jersey’s creation.

"Team founder Jim Ochowicz, star athlete Eric Heiden, and promoter George Taylor had discussed the initial pattern at a meeting with Southland (7-Eleven) representatives in Dallas, and Ochowicz’s mother-in-law had cobbled together the first batch on her sewing machine in Detroit.
They liked what they saw from the outset. The final design was a remarkably effective and iconic piece of Americana, with broad swaths of green, red, and white that were more than a little reminiscent of Christmas. It was a simple, geometric pattern that seems refreshingly austere compared to the frenetic logo billboards that shout across the peloton today. Yet, for all its simplicity, the 7-Eleven jersey was a remarkably effective calling card that was equally recognizable on a storefront, in the chaos of a criterium, or emblazoned across the side of a van traveling down the freeway at 70 mph.
It would also be remarkably enduring. With few changes, the basic design would endure for the life of the team and become one of the most recognized jerseys in the history of cycling."

Team 7-Eleven: How an Unsung Band of American Cyclists Took on the World and Won is the first book to tell the full story of America's first and greatest pro cycling team, with forewords by Eric Heiden and Eddy Merckx. It is the remarkable story of how two cycling fans found one exceptional sponsor and changed the world of cycling forever.
