Diane Petrozzo Rescuing Senior Dogs

Diane Petrozzo is a retired Human Resources professional and teacher who has dedicated her life to rescuing dogs, in particular seniors. Her love for dogs began at the age of six, when a stray followed Diane's brothers home and was immediately adopted by her family. In fact, her family was known to take in stray dogs and cats, raising them until their passing. Diane was a board member and co-foster coordinator at the Retriever Rescue of Colorado, where she continues to volunteer today. Her goal is to highlight the value of senior dogs and to promote their adoption.

"It is my lifelong mission to save one senior at a time until there are no more senior dogs in the shelters and rescues." --Diane Petrozzo

In December 2023, Diane published her first children’s book, Bella Dreams of Whipped Cream, inspired by her very own senior Golden Retriever.

Bella, a curious twelve-year-old Golden Retriever, stumbles across her neighbor dog devouring whipped cream. Ever since that day, she dreams about tasting that special, white, fluffy treat. When her family moves away, Bella is taken to an animal shelter. As the days and weeks go by, whipped cream seems further out of reach than ever before. Will someone rescue her from the shelter and make her sweetest dream ever come true?

This heartwarming story is about dreams, friendship, and love regardless of age and circumstances. It is about Bella finding her forever home, an endless supply of affection, and a daily walk to the local coffee shop for whipped cream!

With beautiful illustrations by Lauren Zurcher, the book highlights the importance of senior dog adoption. Visit Four Worn Paws to learn more about Diane's mission and to find resources. Diane is also donating proceeds from book sale. Check out her interview with the Denver Women Magazine.
