About the Author

Corinne Joy Brown is a Colorado native who has loved the rural Western way of life even though she lives in Denver. She’s an award-winning writer about the American West and a journalist who served for 20 years on the staff of Persimmon Hill, the magazine of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma. She has written for True West Magazine, Working Ranch, Cowboys & Indians, Western & English Today, Colorado Life, and Western Art & Architecture. Her last horse, Shamir, passed away, but she still identifies as a cowgirl and always will.

Corinne has come to know the ranchers who put beef on our tables and has ridden horses across Colorado trails and dude tranches throughout the West. She’s covered Western fashion from the range to the runaway and loves Western-themed movies and music as much as anyone. She knows that thousands like to put their daily life aside and be a cowboy or cowgirl even for a short while, to feel that sense of independence and comradeship that comes with the territory and a good pair of cowboy boots.
